Hardy Liston Jr. Symbol of Hope Award

The award recognizes outstanding proactive contributions of faculty and staff members who serve the campus community and promote diversity and inclusion at UT. The recipient openly expresses his/her beliefs in a diverse university community and has made consistent contributions on issues of diversity and inclusion. The recipient has demonstrated a commitment to the development of individuals in our community through cultivating and enriching the human mind and spirit. The recipient is actively involved in the UT community. Examples may include: membership in organizations that promote diversity, planning/sponsoring campus or community-wide programs dealing with issues of diversity, multiculturalism, and/or appreciation of difference, etc. Anyone who has received the award in the preceding five years is ineligible for consideration.

A current biographical sketch of the nominee is requested along with the nomination form and letter.

The honoree will be selected by Commission for Black Communities members.

Criteria:

1. Faculty nominees must have been employed by UT for a minimum of three years. Exempt and non-exempt staff nominees must have been employed by UT for a minimum of three years.
2. The nominee must be openly expresses his/her beliefs in a diverse university community and has made consistent contributions on issues of diversity and inclusion.
3. The nominee must be actively involved within organizations that promote and educate about diversity and inclusion.

Nomination Procedure

Please complete the form below and attach your nomination statement to the form. Your statement should adequately reflect specific contributions and beliefs. This statement will be the primary basis for consideration for the award and should be thorough and precise.
